Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY)
RECONNECT
A 10 week, online Trauma Sensitive Yoga course to (re)connect to body resources that support you on your therapy journey
JOIN THE WAITLIST NOW!
Traumatic events (whether physical or emotional) often leave a person feeling scared, numb, confused, unsafe and/or distressed. Perhaps you don't even connect with the word "trauma" and instead simply feel highly agitated, on the go, overwhelmed, stressed or - at the other end - disconnected, numbed or zoned out from others, the world and most importantly, you.
With a focus on the mindbody connection, no affiliation to religion and a focus on the individual experience, this is an opportunity to begin to move towards comfort and find safer spaces within your own body. This 8 week course will be a gentle practice focusing on your own Nervous System and encouraging curiosity to find what feels comfortable for your body.
“This is not just an 8 class pass of yoga, this is a toolbox of stress management strategies and inner resourcing explorations to support you in your daily life.
It invites the possibility of being able to reconnect back to yourself, when and if you need.”
The course will incorporate the following;
-information about the Nervous System
-being present
-use of the breath
-use of gentle movement
-making choices
-grounding, rest and relaxation
+SO MUCH MORE!
It's a gentle practice, where there's lots of choice given; the emphasis being on finding what feels right for your body.
No previous yoga experience is necessary as the course is designed to be accessible to anybody regardless of physical ability. Lots of variations (including chair options) will be provided and the invitation to find what works for you.
Participants will not have to talk/engage with other participants making this space more comfortable for those individuals who find it difficult to be in groups. For those that would like this however, there is the option for community connection throughout the course (see details below).
The online space further allows choice-making which is a critical component of trauma informed spaces that may not be as available with in person sessions. For example, option of community connection, what music (if any) you would like to support you, lighting and setting up the space with sensory aids that feel supportive for you (again, if any).

Still unsure? Let’s take a further look into the modules that we will be covering in our time together;
WEEK 1 - The Window of Tolerance
This is the foundation of what we will be working with over our time together. What is it? How is it relevant and how can we begin to move towards comfort in our body?
WEEK 2 - The Breath
Often a difficult topic in the context of stress, anxiety and trauma, as many have had their own experiences (and not always positive) when it comes to the breath. Hence, this week is all about exploring the multifaceted components of the breath, how it relates to the Nervous System and to find how it can specifically support you.
WEEK 3 - Choosing Where Your Attention Goes
Essentially this week is an opportunity to explore (and continue to explore) choice making and more specifically, to choose where your attention. Via the understanding and use of the continuum of embodiment we can make choices in a self-empowered way.
WEEK 4 - Self Compassion
You know that saying, "be kind to yourself" or "speak to yourself the way you'd speak to a friend"? And yet, it is always easier said than done. This week we explore why that is, learn about the physiological components of self compassion and provide the opportunity to have a felt or embodied sense of what self compassion really can feel like.
PLUS [OPTIONAL] COMMUNITY CONNECTION SPACE
WEEK 5 - Tense and Release
This week we explore the paradox of expansion and contraction and how, as cyclical beings, we cannot have one without the other.
WEEK 6 - Creating Energy
So far in the course, we focus a lot on reducing the anxiety and physiological stress in our body but there is an often other neglected component - the numbing, freezing, dissociation. Now that we have more skills to regulate over activation in the body, we turn towards bringing ourselves back into the body in a more intentional way.
WEEK 7 - Touch and Tapping
This week we continue to explore creating energy in the body and in particular, how to create energy when we notice a stuckness. As the saying goes, "attention goes where energy flows".
WEEK 8 - Integration
A space to rest, reflect and land. If you choose. We reflect on the 8 weeks and we allow our bodyminds to integrate all the explorations and curiosities we have taken together.
PLUS [OPTIONAL] COMMUNITY CONNECTION SPACE
+ additional two weeks integration space to access the videos post course
And don’t forget the additional supports when you sign up for the course;
Nourishing the Nervous System Workshop: A space for uncertain times
(RRP: $97AUD)
Immediate, lifetime access to a 90minute workshop including psychoeducation on the nervous system, the window of tolerance, the brain and stress management strategies PLUS a 45 minute Trauma Sensitive Yoga practice.
Working with Your Window of Tolerance: The audio series
(RRP: $222 AUD)
A compilation of all the meditations explored and experienced within our 8 weeks together for you to return to as often as you need. You will receive the access details in Week 1.
““Thank you for the gentle no pressure/obligation way in which you presented each week’s material to us. This really took the pressure off me and allowed me to do things when I could and at my own pace””
“This course is highly relevant whether you are healing or a healer””
Got some more questions?
Check out our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below!
When does the course start?
When you sign up, you receive access to Nourishing the Nervous System workshop, so it can start as soon as now if your curiosity is truly peaked. However, week 1 content begins on Thursday 23rd February 2023 and is released at 9am.
How long do I have access to the content?
The weekly Trauma Sensitive Yoga videos are released 9am on Thursdays and you have the remainder of the course to access the video from day of release. That is, you will be able to access the videos until Wednesday 10th May.
The follow up resources, info, videos and handouts are yours forever.
Both the Nourishing the Nervous System workshop and Working with Your Window of Tolerance: The audio series have lifetime access.
How much time do I need to allocate per week for the course?
1-2 hours. The Trauma Sensitive Yoga sessions are 1 hr and then it is absolutely up to you how much time you choose to devote to the follow up resources.
What if I miss a week?
I am a firm believer that you will take what you need to from the course and this includes honouring your time and energy each week (even if this means missing a week).
The Trauma Sensitive Yoga sessions are somewhat time limited so there is some accountability to take part (ever bought a lifetime access course and you keep putting it off because you know it’s always going to be there? - yeah, me too!).
However given the above, this is part of the reason for ongoing access to follow up resources, the workshop and the audio series so you can still experience the theme of each week (even if you do miss a TSY session for whatever reason).
Do I have to participate in everything (including the Community Connection spaces)?
No. Everything is completely optional. As the foundational premise of the course is working with your window of tolerance, therefore use of your own discernment each week to pick and choose what is available is so important (and absolutely honoured!)
I’ve never done yoga before! I’m not flexible or fit! Is the right course for me?
The beauty of this course is there is absolutely no expectations. No right or wrong. It is about working with where your mindbody is at every week. It is always a gentle practice with lots of choice given including modifications and chair options throughout.
Are Medicare rebates available for this course?
Due to the online and pre-recorded nature of the course, Medicare rebates are not available.
You are, however, welcome to check with your individual Private Health Insurance for coverage.
NDIS funding is also available, if applicable to you.
I look forward to welcoming you into the space!
