Mindfully Curious

Let’s be honest - life can be messy and feel overwhelming at times and unfortunately, many of us haven’t been taught how to understand our emotions and process stress in healthy and functional ways (oh hello there: agitation and outbursts, or on the other end of the spectrum, ignoring and numbing out).

As well as this, many of us live in our minds - overthinking and overanalysing - and are very disconnected from our bodies and their wisdom.

When we live life in this way it can often feel like we’re in constant fight and flight mode, “on edge”, exhausted and not in the present moment.

This is why Reconnect was created. To support women to:

Move from their head, into their heart and body

Build a relationship with their body, and understand what it’s trying to communicate with them (for example, low mood and ongoing fatigue can be an insistent signal from the body that rest and less “pushing” is needed)

Gain greater understanding of the stressors of life, feel more calm and nurture their nervous system (which has a beautiful flow on effect into all areas of your life, and relationships)

Understand and work with emotions that are being held in the body (rather than resisting them)

Be more present and actively engaged in their life

RECONNECT WILL  TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY HOME TO YOURSELF AND TEACH YOU A COLLECTION OF STRESS AND ANXIETY MANAGEMENT TOOLS TO SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR DAILY LIFE.

Thank you for the gentle no pressure/obligation way in which you presented each week’s material to us. This really took the pressure off me and allowed me to do things when I could and at my own pace.

Here’s how your Reconnect journey will unfold:

  • Upon sign up you will get access to “Nourishing the Nervous System workshop” so you can get started straight away if you choose.

  • Weekly 60 minute, online workshops that fuse education (more on this below!) and trauma sensitive yoga practices (learn what makes a trauma sensitive yoga class different to a standard yoga class here). These classes are pre-recorded, so you can tune in at a time that works for you. You will receive 8 in total, over our 10 weeks together, (you will have the full 10 weeks to immerse yourself in them!)

  • A nervous system nourishing playlist to support your at-home yoga practice

  • Additional weekly resources (including meditations, videos and helpful PDFs) to support your at-home practice, deepen your self connection and manage your stress, worries and anxiety

  • Optional live Community Connection calls

  • A 26 page PDF Resource Manual that compiles all the resources in one, print-friendly place

  • The option to upgrade your experience and get 1:1 support from me.

Curious about the kinds of things you’ll explore and learn in our weekly workshops?

How to reduce stress and anxiety, and nurture your nervous system

How to honour your self care needs

How to be more present in your life

How to more kind to yourself

How to embrace rest and relaxation (if you choose) in a world that values busyness and achievement

… and so much more.

WANT TO KNOW MORE SPECIFICALLY WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE EACH WEEK? HERE’S THE BREAKDOWN OF WEEKLY CONTENT..

WEEK 1 - The Window of Tolerance

This is the foundation of what we will be working with over our time together. What is it? How is it relevant and how can we begin to move towards comfort in our body?

WEEK 2 - The Breath

Often a difficult topic in the context of stress, anxiety and trauma, as many have had their own experiences (and not always positive) when it comes to the breath. Hence, this week is all about exploring the multifaceted components of the breath, how it relates to the Nervous System and to find how it can specifically support you.

WEEK 3 - Choosing Where Your Attention Goes

We will explore (and continue to explore) choice making and more specifically, to choose where your attention goes as a stress management strategy.

WEEK 4 - Self Compassion

You know that saying, "be kind to yourself" or "speak to yourself the way you'd speak to a friend"? And yet, it is always easier said than done. This week we explore why that is, learn about the physiological components of self compassion and provide the opportunity to have a felt or embodied sense of what self compassion can feel like.

PLUS [OPTIONAL] LIVE COMMUNITY CONNECTION SPACE

WEEK 5 - Tense and Release

This week we explore how the mechanisms of both tension and release in our body can support us when feeling stressed, overwhelmed or disconnected.

WEEK 6 - Creating Energy

So far in the course, we focus a lot on reducing activation (stress) in the body but there is also the opposite we can experience -  the numbing, freezing, shut down response. Now that we have more skills to regulate over activation in the body, we turn towards bringing sensation and connection back.

WEEK 7 - Touch and Tapping

This week we continue to explore creating energy in the body and in particular, how to create energy when we notice a stuckness. As the saying goes, "attention goes where energy flows".

WEEK 8 - Integration

A space to rest, reflect and land, if you choose. We reflect on the 8 weeks and we allow our bodyminds to integrate all the explorations and curiosities we have taken together.

PLUS [OPTIONAL] LIVE COMMUNITY CONNECTION SPACE

+ additional two weeks integration space to access the videos post course

+ And don’t forget the additional supports when you sign up for the course;

Have some questions?

I have answers…

  • No previous yoga experience is necessary as the course is designed to be accessible to anybody regardless of physical ability. It is not about how fit or flexible you are and there is little to no focus on particular sequences or “postures”. It is a gentle practice with lots of choice given (including chair options)and the invitation to find what works for you week to week.

If you would like some more info and to try a short practice, click here.

  • Trauma-sensitive yoga is a specific, tailored approach for individuals with trauma, anxiety and stress-related concerns, while community-based yoga classes often aims to provide general wellness and fitness benefits and as such, may not be trained in specific trauma-informed principles and ways of teaching.

In Reconnect there is not a focus on strength, flexibility and “postures” and instead a focus on education, providing options, choice making, mindful movement and self compassion. It is often a much more gentle practice with no touching or adjustments, no affiliation to specific religions or spiritual aspects that you may see in traditional yoga classes, a greater awareness of potential emotional reactions and triggers that could occur for participants and a genuine focus on finding what feels comfortable and/or safe for your body and your experience.

If you would like watch this short explanation video and try a short practice click here

You can also access a podcast episode here which I explore Trauma Sensitive Yoga in more detail here
